I’ve been one poor correspondent
I’ve been too, too hard to find
But it doesn’t mean you ain’t been on my mind
- “Sister Golden Hair” by Gerry Beckley
Hi friends. It has been too long. I wanted to bring you up to date with some of the everyday goings-on around here.
Luke graduated from Colorado College two weeks ago with a BA in Music. He’s planning to stay in Colorado Springs for now, working at Hunt + Gather, a Colorado-themed food and craft store downtown, and composing music and trying to break into DJing. We see him pretty frequently when he comes over to grab dinner and play with Rickert the dog.
The graduation ceremony didn’t go as planned for us. Shanon had an attack of vertigo about 15 minutes into the event, and I can tell you now that a steep hockey arena is not the best place for vertigo. With the help of people around us, I kept her from falling and got help from Campus Safety officers and the medical staff at the arena. Everyone who saw she was having trouble was so helpful and kind to us. Medical staff put her on a gurney in an out-of-the way room where she was able to recover for maybe an hour. Poor Shanon didn’t get to see Luke graduate (though she did hear them announce his name), but I was able to step away from her side for a minute or two to watch and cheer for him. Luke had no idea anything had happened, so he was able to enjoy the moment. Shanon eventually felt all better after some anti-vertigo medication and a day and a half of rest, but of course she’s very disappointed.
Nick is finishing his first year at Lawrence University. They are on quarters, so their academic year goes into June. He’s still planning on majoring in biology, but it seems like the class that made the biggest impression on him was a year-long Russian language course. He’s going to take two Russian literature in translation classes next year. I’m going to Appleton next week to help him move back home for the summer. Our friend Gabriella helped him get a summer job at the Flying W Ranch where I think he’ll be waiting tables or otherwise helping serve at the “chuckwagon suppers.”
Shanon has been exercising at the YMCA a lot this spring, and has been working on our yard and garden. I also have been gardening, reading, taking a lot of photographs, watching soccer, all of which I hope to write about here soon. Thanks for reading, and I think about you all probably more than you realize.
Oof, sorry to hear about the grad ceremony vertigo, but happy none-the-less for Luke's achievement. It's great to follow your updates on your whole family!
