Last you heard from me here, Nick and I were touring Beloit College. Some time after that, Nick decided that he will be attending Lawrence University, another small liberal arts college in Wisconsin. I think that’s a great choice. It’s quite similar to Beloit (or Colorado College, for that matter) but I had a good feeling about Lawrence when we toured there last October, and I guess Nick felt the same way. He also thinks he will like their academic calendar which is on quarters/trimesters. He probably feels that way because I talked about how that was one of the things I liked about Northwestern, so if he hates it I guess it’s my fault. Nick had his wisdom teeth out on Friday and so far it seems like his recovery is going very well.
Luke has been working at a scented candle shop this summer which he seems to quite like. I have to imagine it’s more laid-back than working in a restaurant, movie theater, or amusement park like he has in the past. He’ll be a senior this coming academic year, so I suppose it’s past time for me to start bugging him about what his plans for the future are.
Shanon and I are bracing to be empty-nesters in the fall. She recently returned from a short trip to NC to see her father—her stepmother passed away recently so she wants to be supportive of her dad. I’m dealing with some chronic pain in my neck/shoulder/arm which seems to be due to a pinched nerve in my neck. Meds haven’t really helped so I’m hoping physical therapy, which I start at the end of this week will do something.
The pain has made it hard to get some things done, like gardening or basic house and garden maintenance. The pain is minimized when I’m concentrating on something, so I have been spending a lot of time playing Magic online or doing various little craft projects. I’ll try and write again soon and share some specifics.
