Happy Thanksgiving, all. I’m thankful that I’m still in touch with all of you. The subscribers list for this newsletter contains at least one person I met in elementary school, middle school, high school, college, and from Shanon’s grad school cohort. The rest of you are mostly family, current and former co-workers, and many people I met online—including some wonderful people I only know from online communities and have never met in person. Thanks for being my friends.
We had our Thanksgiving celebration yesterday, a day early. Luke’s best friend, Han, is on a plan to Europe today, and we wanted to include them. Celebrating a holiday on a close-enough day seems normal to me, as with dad’s airline pilot schedule we had to do that a few times when I was a kid. Nick got home from college on Tuesday and mom and dad came down from Parker. I cooked a turkey for maybe the first time ever and it turned out pretty good. I think it was Shanon who mentioned that cooking a holiday turkey is difficult because it’s something you almost never do so you don’t have any practice at it, and then you have to do it for your whole extended family. I had mom’s help—she loaned me their electric roaster and then stopped me from incinerating the turkey when I hadn’t read the roaster instructions.
I hope you are safe, happy, and well-fed this Thanksgiving.
Steve cooked Thanksgiving dinner like a pro, and we had a wonderful family evening together.
