Holga Week photo entries
In my last post I mentioned the Holga Week celebration of the Holga plastic camera. I wanted to share with you my three entries for the contest.
This is something of a re-creation of a photo I took on another camera a few months back. I was happy with how that one turned out, so I found a similar location and took a similar shot but this time with the Holga. This is my favorite of the three.
I shot a roll of film at the abandoned El Paso County Health building, across from Memorial Park. Photos of words or signs or graffiti are often considered not that interesting, but I like the juxtaposition of “God is dead” with the other tries at the cursive “G” and the 🙂
The third and last image I entered is another shot of that county building with the late afternoon sun and clouds above. I like taking photos of overlooked and abandoned urban sites, and the qualities of the Holga—the warped lines, vignetted corners, light leaks—give those photos a different look somewhere between eerie and nostalgic.
